When you install our App, we receive certain information from Shopify, including:

  • Access tokens to interact with your store's data via the Shopify API
  • Product information, including product images, titles, and descriptions
  • Billing information for subscription management (processed by Shopify)

1.2 Information We Collect Automatically

When you use our App, we may automatically collect:

  • Usage data, such as features accessed and actions taken within the App
  • Technical information, including browser type, device information, and IP address
  • Performance data related to image optimizations (file sizes, compression ratios)

1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

AutoWebp does not collect, store, or process:

  • Customer personal information from your store (names, emails, addresses)
  • Payment or financial information (all billing is handled by Shopify)
  • Sensitive personal data

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our image optimization services
  • Process and optimize your product images as requested
  • Generate alt-text and rename files based on product information
  • Monitor and analyze usage patterns to improve the App
  • Communicate with you about the App, including updates and support
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues or security threats
  • Comply with legal obligations

3. Data Storage and Security

We take the security of your data seriously and implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect it:

  • All data is transmitted over secure HTTPS connections
  • Access tokens are stored securely and encrypted at rest
  • We use industry-standard security practices and infrastructure
  • We regularly review and update our security measures

Your data is stored on secure servers hosted by reputable cloud providers. Image processing is performed in memory and optimized images are uploaded directly back to Shopify — we do not permanently store copies of your images unless you specifically enable our backup feature.

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • Service Providers: We may share data with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the App (e.g., hosting, analytics), subject to confidentiality agreements.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
  • Protection of Rights: We may disclose information to protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property, or that of our users or others.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your App is installed and your account is active. Upon uninstallation of the App:

  • We delete your shop's data within 48 hours of receiving Shopify's uninstall webhook
  • Aggregated, anonymized analytics data may be retained for service improvement
  • Backup images (if enabled) are deleted within 30 days unless you request earlier deletion

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about your store
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your data (subject to legal obligations)
  • Portability: Request your data in a portable format
  • Opt-out: Opt out of certain data collection by uninstalling the App

7. GDPR Compliance

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), we comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Our lawful bases for processing include:
